Common Essay Topics
Common Essay TopicsThere are a few common theme and general approach to Plato essay topics. The list will take you from basic definitions of mathematical symbols, the entire Plotinus seminar as well as The Republic. For the former, you could start with a basic introduction of the writer in Plato's dialogue, or rather, an introduction of Plato himself, and how his thought was the starting point of Western philosophy. Think of the problem to be discussed when you do this, and the work or paper which one is being given to write, of course. We cannot just assume that everyone in the audience knows who Plato was and what he stood for. Therefore, you have to write your essay with an actual theme in mind.Plato was born about six centuries after Euclid, so you have to decide whether you want to go into his philosophies of space and time, the reality of time, or the nature of being itself. You could also choose some more of his concepts, such as his logical argument, but they could all fit on the same page and be listed in sequence. However, if you have been given to ask such questions, and you have chosen a topic which requires that you think about such things, then you might find it easier if you go into the logical premises first. You could consider either one of the Platonic dialogues, in order to actually get the points across about what is going on, and why one essay topic can be more or less important than the other. If you are unsure about what essay topics you should consider, then consider what it is that interests you most, and will help you to express your own personal knowledge. What some essay topics might include are how the relationship between mathematicians and poets can be said to be, a deeper examination of the idea of truth, or how a philosophy, or a philosophy of society, relates to the foundation of science. However, it might not even be as much as that. Some of the topics may concern rationalism, Plato's conception of wisdom, or whether it is realis tic to believe that the mind and soul are one. Or perhaps what Plato would think of contemporary American values. The common theme for these topics is that they seek to understand the philosophical ideas and philosophical viewpoints of the ancient Greek thinkers, of whom Plato and his contemporaries are examples. Some of these topics are also influenced by Greek literature, for example, but they are by no means limited to that. Some of the platonic essays are more of a critique of modern philosophy, others of certain aspects of modern science. Whatever you want to do, the best thing to do is to write the essay in order to receive an idea of the subject in a lively way, to give you a new insight into the person, philosophy, or other source from which it is written.
